ATMIA Canada

Last week I had the opportunity to attend the ATMIA in Canada.  For those of you that didn’t attend – and that covers quite a few – there was a lot of talk about the EMV regulations coming into play in Canada soon.  As early as 2008 the market will be impacted by the introduction of the “Chip Card” reader.  The major impact that I came away with is the fact that the liability for taking a fraudulent card will shift from the card issuer to the merchant.  This has major market impact for the Canadian “White Label” market – and at some point in time will find itself traveling in to the US.  So for all of you US ISOs that think you are dodging a bullet, that may be the case for now, but eventually this will impact us right here in the USA.
